"Rattkin Enforcers "

Here's a puzzle that someone might be able to shed some light on..

When my party delivered the Umpani-Mook alliance letter and was thus able to steal the Chaos Moliri, I left Arnika with it in my possesion, only to be confronted by a bunch of rattkin who demanded money for their silence. I could have beat up on them at the time but I was sure that would not be a good idea, so I loaded an earlier save and decided to leave the C.M. with the Mook until I absolutely HAD to take it.

Well, that time came, only this time the Rattkin enforcers didn't show up outside Arnika!

Note that I have NOT killed the Don, and I have visited/paid off He'Li as necessary.

So my question is: what triggers the Rattkin "visit"? The only thing I can think of at this stage is that on the first occasion Myles was in my party (I think) and second time he was not.

Any ideas?

Hmm, isn't that quite obvious? The C.M. in your possession triggered the rattkins' appearance. Same with some savants that you'll encounter in the Mountain Wilderness after obtaining the A.D.

nah, the ratts are random encounters. they have a spawn point at the intersection RIGHT outta arnika. they have like 4 set dialogs...the 4th just repeats. they just start appearing so far into the game. grab your CM, go outside, back yourself into a corner and whale on them.

Nope -- they are set encounters. Any time you leave Arnika with one of the three artifacts in your possession, they will spawn and do their demand thing. If you don't have one, they won't spawn outside Arnika. They WILL spawn at least one time as you are entering the SE Wilderness but I don't know if they do it only if you kill the Don or if something else triggers them.

agree with Jem.. that they are triggered by the three artifacts and the instance outside Arnika isn't random.
As for killing the Don, haven't bumped into any hostile Rats since paying off those outside Arnika... most probs, they don't care two hoots abt him.

maybe a good idea to try just to find out.

Wipe them out or do you really want to pay "protection" to a bunch of critters who would "RATT" you out whether you pay or not.

Nononoo...

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enuff in my original post!

I will state what happened again:

After the first encounter with the razuka, I went back to a previous game save and left the C.M. unmolested while I pursued other quests. Later, when I did the C.M. switcheroo and left town, The Rattkin razuka DIDN'T appear even though I DID have the C.M. in my possession!

So there is still a mystery here.

In the first time through, had you killed the Don and/or obtained the AD from him even if you did or did not have it on you at the time of encountering the Razuka?

Can't confirm it because I always assumed it was simply having one of the artifacts in your possession as you left Arnika that triggered the encounter but it could be that the other is sort of a pre-trigger for meeting them: if you've killed the Don or at least obtained the AD from him.

Which means that if you had killed the Don/taken the AD the first time but not the 2nd time, the two things together is what triggered the encounter.

I have to agree with whatever, it is a random encounter. The Razuka will only appear if you've one (or more) artifacts in your possession, but it's random when they appear, be it at the gates of Arnika or near the Sorceress Queen.
I saved the game before exiting Arnika, and tried about four times what happened when going outside. In two cases they showed up, in two they didn't. So if you neither want to pay them nor to fight them, just reload until they don't appear.
