"Change of weapons from Wiz7 to Wiz8?"

Posted by Roderick on Apr-03-02 at 06:12 AM
I just tried to equip my Lord coming from 7 with a Bec de Corbin to have an offhand weapon pushing my skill with maces and find that when imported, the weapon becomes an extended and twohanded Polearm-weapon.

Wiz7:
primary/secondary
short range
mace/flail

Wiz8:
primary
twohanded (although not stated in item-description I was unable to combine it with a dagger in second hand. Although the secondary slot is available with this weapon, I can't use it.)
extended
polearm

Are there other changes, which became obvious to you veterans out there?

It has a different range (extended) than the dagger (short), so the two can not be used in conjunction. It is a limitation of the game mechanics.

Is there any secondary weapon at extended range? If not
then all extended range weapons are effectively 2-handed.
I tried to equip my Monk with Cat o' Nine Tails (extended)
and shuriken - a favorite combo from Wiz 7. But apparently
that is not allowed either.

Isn't Cat o'nine tails extended range? And yes, you can't mix and match thrown weapons with melee (in the same set).

This was one of the few things that really irked me about this game (until I got over it). Having the ability to set up two sets of primary and secondary equipment kind of makes up for it, sincee people tend to set them up as "melee" set and "ranged" set.

And when you can't find a good secondary weapon, consider a shield. I use them all the time for my front-liners. They can really help in early-mid game, and later they can help with magic resistances.
