"Gadgets? What Gives?"

Posted by Rascilon (Guest) on Apr-02-02 at 11:58 AM
Hello Forum,

I've been playing W8 for sometime now, but I can't figure out what the heck I'm supposed to do with the Gadgeteer stuff. Some items I have picked up are:

1) Porthole (what is this for?)
2) Damaged Black Box
3) Magnifiying Glass
4) Lightning Rod
5) Toy Doll
6) Gears and Parts

Am I supposed to combine these items somehow? I simply cannot figure out what value they have.

Thanks for any help.

There are lots of websites about gadgets, but...

Porthole combines with Pot w/ Lid to make Port-o-Potty (serious), which is one of the Gadgeteer's most useful items (early on at least, it does Noxious Fumes)

Damaged Black Box is only there to give a clue that you can examine Black Boxes (like the one from the Helazoid ship)

Magnifying glass combines with Ptorch to make Searchlight (Detect Secrets)

Lightning Rod, can be used to do some minor damage, doesn't need to be combined with anything

Toy Doll combines with Hinged Box to make Jack-in-the-Box, which does Terror. Note that some websites mention you can combine this further still with the Demon Doll, but this last gadget was left out of the game.

Gears and Parts... huh???

Note that you need a varying Engineering skill in order to combine Gadget items.

Why can't my gadgeteer strap the lightning rod to his Omnigun? I want a lightning gun damnit! Or put the microwave chip into it.

Well, the Microwave Chip makes a mighty fine other item... really, I think the game could've let the Gadgeteer combine more items (like more weapons)... oh well.

Bobby, me fine laddybuck,

Have you seen what an Omnugun Mark 12 can do armed with Lightning Bolts. Brings a whole new meaning to the term "Lethal Weapon".

Has anyone tried...

Not merging the doll with the hinged box,
Waiting until you can get doll's clothes,
Merging the clothes with the doll,
And then merging the clothed doll with the hinged box?

Seems logical, but only if you could do without jack-in-the-box for half the game.

In case anyone is wondering, I have tried splitting the jack-in the-box to merge the doll and clothes, but that can't be done. You can't unmerge any gadgets.

Has Sir-Tech confirmed that we are all just SOL because a second doll was left out of the game?
