"Bishops"

Just finished my second game of Wiz 8.

Had a bishop this time. I trained him well such that by end game he was 100 in Wizardry, Psionics and Divinity and about 50 in Alchemy. His realm skills were all about 90-100 as well.

At end game even with those stats he could not cast Mind Flay/Nuclear Blast/Asphixiation beyond about power level four in the "green zone".

I also noticed from about 80 skill onwards his rate of learning slowed significantly. Other than actually getting the spells , extra hit points/spell points/stamina etc he did not increase in effectiveness much beyond level 16 to level 24 that he finshed at.

What the probelm was is that he was casting, fizzling, back firing the big spells with ease but had stopped learning from his successes and mistakes.

His intelligence with the Brilliant Helmut eqiupped was 120 so that should not have been an issue. Piety was in the 80's as I was working on other stats (speed) as well.

Anyone else notice this plateauing with their bishops ? Any answers on how to keep them learning/increasing realm skill levels once those numbers get fairly large?

i have a few characters (lord with water magic comes to mind) that just can NOT increase their skill no matter how many times i cast spells from that realm...doesnt matter the level, or spell or if in battle or not.

eg it might be learning in general

If your Psionic spells aren't working, realize that Senses is one of the determining attributes, although I don't know how that plays into things, except that you'll want it to be high.

Bishop or no Bishop, many seemingly good spells just aren't effective often by the end of the game... practice as much as you want, things like Quicksand, etc. won't work well on those high level enemies with strong resistances.

It may be dependent on your Level as well, so that a lvl 24 - Bishop just isn't powerfull enough to cast high level "7" - spells. This is an idea worth considering, I think, for the level-limit in Wiz8 is 50.

And the Wizardry-skill is also controlled be dexterity. Maybe this is where your bishop isn't good enough.

I think all skills plateau at higher levels.
This same phenomenon happens in Wiz 7. Keeps you
from maxing out too soon.
