"Gadgets are weak?"

Posted by Moulin Rogue (Guest) on Mar-23-02 at 07:56 AM
Just wondering why some of the Gadgets, like the Tsunami and Earthquake ones, are so weak? I have a high level Gadgeteer with high Engineering, Intelligence and related skills. But the aforementioned Gadgets do maybe (at most) 12 damage to all enemies, including rather weak ones. What gives? At least her Boiling Blood gun is decent... overall I suppose the ability to make Tripleshot Crossbows, the Invigorator Belt, and Regenerating Stone are worth it.

The monsters you fight are based on your level, so you don't become a tank and stroll through the game. So, if you are high enough to get those gadgets, most likely all the monsters have been given a steroid injection. They work nicely on big groups, and thats what their use is. Also, the enemies may have strong water / earth resistances.

I consistently use the water cannon (Tsunami) on Ascension Peak against various opponents and get 30-50 points damage. May be your level, our associated skills.

Does Dexterity affect Gadgets (I know the game says it affects Music)? I've mainly focused on Intelligence and Senses up to this point (as well as Engineering). But since Boiling Blood works decently, I guess it's probably the monsters' resistances.

(its requirements)

Look at the requirements for the items you are comparing:
Microwave Ray (Boiling Blood) - Eng 75, Level 14
JackHammer (Earthquake) - Eng 85, Level 18
Water Cannon (Tsunami) - Eng 85, Level 18

So, based on your Level and Engineering, you should expect different results from these. Also, the ray gun is a one target gadget, the others are multi-target, which tend to do less damage, per target. I've had the ray do over 100 damage (seems to do more damage at long range than close up), but if the other items ever did that, they would be way to powerful.
