"screaming heads"

Posted by Essexx (Guest) on Mar-11-02 at 11:15 AM
I keep getting nailed by these awful screaming head things (I cannot recall the name of the monsters) in the graveyard. They keep throwing Terror spells and Insanity Spells on my party and cast "Eye for an Eye" so I have no chance whatsoever.

What is the best approach to these? I dont have any good spells (not that I know of) to prevent or cure the insanity. It is entertaining to see my characters laugh, but I would like to win this battle.

i havent run into those yet, but my best advice would be to use "vs undead" attacks, like the priest's ability to turn them, or holy water spells/items. in my experience, those attacks have done sizeable damage and often paralyzed the enemies.

hope that helps until someone with more exp shows

as a side note, i wish i had a way to beat my own characters when they go insane like that. laughing is funny for one round of combat, not much else

It sucks when your samurai goes insane and gets 3 criticals in the next two rounds. How come he doesn't do that against the monsters? Instead, he took down my fighter, ninja and mage.

Magic screen at highest you can throw buffered by soul shield. Clendori's weapond Demonfang and demonstong, dusi of banishment, holy water. Lastly run up and pound the crap out of them.

Had this happen to me the first time out. The best thing I found was to try and surprise them (with the enter combat thing) and hope you get in a whole lot of hitting before they can react. If this doesn't work, and you can't stop them from beating on you, go a different way, or, if there is anything else you can do that will earn XP for you, go off and kill other, more harmless stuff until you can get soul shield or magic screen going.
If it moves, kill it. If it doesn't move, prod it until it does.

I found you can run/walk and use up all your movement points, so your own characters won't get the chance to attack each other. So, if you can run behind the building and end up no longer insane, next attack you can come out swinging.

Pure casters usually have Few to no hitpoints and die quickly within melee range of any fighters worth their sword. I just charge them, skip the battle buff's. Especially when a group is still low level. If you are specifically referring to the screaming heads in that retro dungeon, make sure that you are in a position that when you open the door it blocks you from their line of sight. Yes cower behind the door and there should never be more than 2 at a time in your face, and they will be in melee range. I use the same wimpy tactics when going after Nebular, Just gotta get that amulet no matter the cost.
