"I challenge everyone who can read this!"

The Challenge? To finish the game (other than the boffo ending) in as few days and hours as possible. This is a true challenge of your role playing ability since it puts everyone on a level playing field.

It is challenging to do since the quicker you finish the less experience points you have THUS the lower level your characters are when they have to take on certain set battles etc.

Play on Easy difficultly so everyone has the same set of circumstances.

Please reply with how fast you did it whether you beat everyone who has responded or not and include just the very basics of what your party consisted of as far as race and professions. You can include levels you were when finished if you want but please exclude stats, weapons etc. in the interest of brevity.

So far I my fastest completion time is

8 DAYS
1 HOUR
3 MINUTES

Big Daddy, You confuse platform games and 1st person hack and slash with true role-playing and I bet you missed a lot of the expert level upgrades and fun this way. Just an opinion!!

Really, just about the opposite would be the true test of your role playing ability ... see who could make it through the game with the fewest kills.

Same here.

Besides, it's not clear from the challenge whether he is talking gametime or realtime. Even if I wanted to take up this challenge, I know I couldn't complete in 8 days realtime because I have other commitments to my time.

As for gametime, sure I could do it in that time if I wanted to but you miss so much of the game in doing so -- all of the neat quests for armor items, the T'Rang/Umpani quests (other than the minimum required to complete the game) and so on. What's the fun in that? And having fun is much more important, IMO, than beating someone else's time.

Why would that be the opposite? In finishing the game so quickly I had much fewer kills than I did the first time I played.

First Game around 2743 Kills
8 day game around 1056 Kills

The quicker you try to finish the game the lower your levels are when you finish (mine were 17-20) and the less "awesome" weapons, armor, items you have.

THUS it is more of a challenge to actually finish the game. I do agree however that trying to finish with as few as kills ALSO poses an interesting challenge. One would have to try to do all the experience point quests and run from many Higardi bandit battles. Hmmmm.

Boralex, you confuse my challenge with a hack and slash type of playing.

I did this challenge for the very fact that I did indeed complete the game three other times with various characters and went just about everywhere I could and got everything I could. Since I find Wizardry 8 to be about the funnest (not sure that is really a word) role playing game I have every played, I was trying to find new ways to play and enjoy the game over and over. The first time I completed the game about 58 game days had passed and I had done everything except the retro dungeons. I could have taken much, much longer in game days if I wanted a totally "elite" party that rested after every battle but I don't see the fun in that. No challenge, you see?

I was just exploring other ways to still enjoy the game after completing it and going everywhere. I had fun doing it and I suggest you try the method with at least one party.

If the challenge is to read it, I did. Otherwise as to the content of the post I have but one question: Why?

I accept the challenge and I will post my accomplishments here again.

something like 31 minutes.

Of course, that person started with a hacked team that had all the items necessary to get the boat and onlock the Astral Dominae.

Do you mean hacked or unhacked teams?

Oh, certainly unhacked. "What fun is a hacked game?" he said.\

I wonder what the record is (in game time of course.)

I finished the game in 1day, 3hours, and approx 23min.
Thats how long it took me to sell the game which in my opinion is another stupid idea.

Some of us work, you know, like a job, and have a real life ....

And besides, this isn't a race. As mentioned, RPGs are more 'smell the roses' games than 'escape the Nazi castle' shooters.

Playing with a solo faerie ninja, on the other hand....

Has anyone here seen Lady Pixar?

it is just a challenge, and no more silly than re-loading for the *light* *sword* (or even the CoC ). After you "smelled the roses" a few times, what's wrong with beating it on the game time? It is the time as counted in the game that Big Daddy's suggesting, so you don't actually have to be glued to the computer for eight days & nights
Off topic, I decided that one thing that Wiz 8 is missing, is the lack of that one puzzle, one game that you'd kill yourself trying to accomplish, and failing a hundredth time, you'd still want to try again. Like the gorrors battles in CoDS. And looking for those missing gadgeteer items does not count, BTW. For me, no game ever will be as addictive, compulsive and satisfying at the same time as CoDS/Wiz Gold. Oh, well...
Best, Kasia

Yes I know, I happen to be someone who work a job and has a "real" life. How could you even assume I was speaking of real time instead of game time. And as mentioned, I already "stopped to smell the roses" with several other parties before I decided to challenge myself (and others) with this scenario. Hope that clears things up for you.

I am going to see Lady Pixar tonight.

hope she can handle herself, it is dangerous for ladies to venture by themselves in strange places.

I finished the game in 7 days 16 hours but I'm pretty certain I could do it in about 6 days.

I used a party of 3 fighters, 1 ranger, 1 gadgeteer, 1 bard, and recruited Vi and the android. All of the melee types used extended weaps with one fighter and the ranger both being mook.

Basically I did the game the same as I did it the first time I completed it so I finished off all the Umpani quests, became a templar, etc. I did some thing that cost me time such as searching for the damn doll in the castle (still haven't found it).

If I was going to do this again, I would keep the same group but wouldn't do the Umpani stuff. I'd also have one fighter and the android start learning wand earlier as I ended up with them using the staff of doom and Z-bo.

As it turns out the staff of doom was a great help. Once I saved enough to buy an Infinity helm from Ferro I was able to build the rangers alchemy up fairly quickly buy casting heal wounds on the fighter every time he went "Oooof".

How about trying a RETRO TEAM? Like characters who completely apprentices or something? I'm still struggling but my band of misfits are still alive and kicking. We're stuck in Rapax land right now.

Faerie Fighter
Human Gadgeteer
Dwarf Bard
Rawulf Ninja
Lizardman Bishop(the best!)
Draconian Alchemist

Being horribly racist (speciesist?), I played through the first time with a human-only team. It took ages and I kept getting whomped. So I decided to embrace our funny looking bretheren and I must say that diversity is key (having a better knowledge of where points should go, which weapons are better, where everything is, and that gadgeteers and bards are my friends, are also keys, but lets not argue). That said, has anyone played with a fully single race party? You must still retain different professions, but everyone is a faerie, or a mook, etc... Or how about the other way around? Everyone is the same profession, but all are different races. Or what about both? A bunch of Lizardman fighters on a holiday to Dominus? Lets get creative with what we have, and the game could keep us happy for ages.

I will not accept the challenge because its not my kind of game, but I want to congratulate you for the effort to finish the game like that. Well done, dude.

Hahaha 8 days, it took you 8 days to beat this wimpy yet easy game, thats to funny. I beat it under 1 week (4 days 16 hours, 30 minutes, and 25.21 seconds). My ending level was 19 on two of my lords, 18 on my ninja, rouge, and bard (Umpani), 17 on my mage and psionic, and 15 on Vitalia. I believe that it took me this short was soley because I was blessed with a game that didn't need any patches and never did crash on me or glitch once. Ha, I went 4 days straight, ordered 4 family size pizzas (along with some jolt), told my boss i had namonia (i know im a liar), and played like a true gammer played. Im not sure why playing this game and beating the Savant was easier than in Wiz. 7, but it was.. i guess for playing games for 17 years finally paid off .

So beat me, I challenge thee:

4 days
16 hours
30 minutes
25.21 seconds
on level (average) 16
good luck!!!

What a disappointment.
I fully intend to take at least 1 year to go through the first time, or as long as possible to finish. This will get me the most enjoyment out of the game. Hopefully it will take about 1000 hours.
WOW! Racing through? For me the fun is playing the game, not just finishing or beating it. When I finnaly do finish I will be the highest level possible.
Take it to the MAXX
Have a great day.

I need a clarification about something:

You say you finished the game in 4 days. Is it earth time or Wizardry (game) time?

- We also assume no editing or cheating -

Even with the tricks like setting teleport to ascension peak w/o getting the helm and teleporting to ascension with the destinae dominus (or the one that makes the party insane)
and like alchemist potion mixing for the money, not finishing every other quest...

it is very very hard to finish it in 4 days whereas it is somewhat hard in 7 days.

I finished the game in 6 days 4 hours (game time). avg level 19.

4 days+ game time is unbelievable. You cannot get away not doing some of the battles and quests. Like helm of serenity. At first I did not get it, instead I teleported to ascension (I was there before of course) peak but you have to kill marten's ghost when you dont have the helm and at the end your characters stay mad forever. it does not go off by camping either.

So what was your trick?

I'm not interested in this myself, but I found a way to shave off a little time if that's what you want. When you get to the Rapax area, go to the left by the jail cells and run through the lava (of course you have to have enough hit points to survive to the other side) once on the other side you have skipped a whole bunch of encounters - proceed to the rapax castle and become a templar so they won't bother you and go back and get the stuff you need/want.

Well, I've been running 7 teams in parallel since December 21st and NONE of them have even seen the Sea Caves yet !! Although two teams are parked outside, waiting for me to get back to them in a few weeks.

So, WHO'S BEHIND ME ???
