"Poll: Party Composition"
Posted by Ostsol (Guest) on Dec-03-01 at 12:19 PM
I'm just wondering how you guys put together your parties. . . My own consists of:Dracon Samurai
Lizardman Fighter
Mook Ranger
Hobbit Rogue
Rawulf Priest
Faerie Mage
RPCs:
RFS-81 (I think that's the name) -- Monk
Vi Dominae (or Dominus?) -- Valkyrie
I haven't had any problems with this composition at all. I have a strong melee force as well as some decent magical backing. Vi, my Priest, and my Ranger are all quite capable of healing my party; and my Ranger and Fighter both have excellent ranged attacks (my Rogue has a cursed dagger that I really like, so he's not shooting anything). With the amount of musical instruments and gadget parts I've been finding, I often find myself wishing I'd taken a Gageteer or a Bard instead of a Rogue, but whenever that Rogue gets into melee combat and insta-kills an enemy with a backstab, those wishes disappear.

I know this isn't original but my team was transfered from My Wiz7 game.Elf - Ninja
Elf - Ninja
Fairy - Ninja
Elf - Samurai
Elf - Bishop
Fairy - Mage
As you can see near the end of Wiz7, I changed all my characters to monks, ninja & samurai's to get the critical kills. They don't mean as much in Wiz 8 but didn't feel the need to change them, they get the job done. I really liked the fact that one of my ninjas transfered with the T'rang stun rod (that helped alot in the beginning. Now at level 12ish, they do pretty good, I get 2 or 3 instant kills per large combat because i have somemany guys that can do it.
My NPC's are Vi & that robot monk (more crit kills... hehe)

Hi Nighttime,
say, you wouldn't have happened to frequent the Gamers' Forum before they (just) shut it down did you? Reason I ask is someone know there has a very similar party...Here's my first party for Wiz8...
Dracon Fighter ---> Lord
Human Fighter ---> Samurai
Hobbit Rogue ---> Ninja
Mook Bard ---> Ranger
Dwarven Priest ---> Valkyrie
Elven Mage ---> Bishop
Might decide on keeping the mage...

No, I don't. But it's nice to know that I'm not the only one that thinks that way.

Here is my party. I'm pretty pleased with it.Front Lines:
Lizardman Fighter w/ Fang
Felpurr Samurai w/ Bloodlust
Faerie Mage -> Ninja w/ Cane of Corpus
Left/Right Flanks:
Felpurr Monk w/ Staff of Doom
RPC Vi Domina -> Fighter w/ Raven's Bill
Center Support:
Rawulf Priest -> Valkyrie w/ Stun Rod
Rear Long Range Assault:
RPC Madras w/ Omnigun
Felpurr Bard w/ Some bow from dungeon (can't remember)
Madras, Bard, and Priest/Fighter can all use heal all, which is cool, but I think gadgeteers are pretty worthless and Madras kind of sucks. Bard is amazing. Fighters are terrific, too.

Dracon - Fighter
Rawulf - Lord
Vi DominaeHobbit - Gadgeteer (rocks!)
Myles
Faerie - Mage
Mook - Psionicist
Dwarf - Priest
Not original, but it is a great and well balanced party.

I imported from 7, but changed some of the classes almost immediately. Here's Where I am now:Hobbit Bard (Bard 3/ Rogue 6/ Lord 1) (Ended Wiz 7 as a Lord)
Human Ninja (All ninja)
Dwarf Fighter (Fighter 6/ Lord 4) (Ended Wiz 7 as a Lord)
Elf Valkyrie (Valkyrie 9/ Samaurai 1) Was a Samaurai in Wiz 7
Rawulf Priest (Priest 8/ Monk 2) Ended Wiz7 as a Monk
Elven Ranger (All Ranger)
Vi Domina, Madras.
Give a Bard a good weapon, and they can be quite effective on the front line. His instruments and magic Items compensate for the lack of offensive magic in my party.

(M) Dracon Fighter - Dude!
(M) Human Ninja - most versatile
(F) Gnome Bishop - Most kills
(F) Faerie Monk - great as spell caster
(M) Felpurr Monk - weakest link
RFS-81 is also along and whichever RPC I otherwise tend to drag with me (been trying Urq for the most part - not too impressed).

This is the party I've been using since Wiz 6. I tried to
aim for versatility and critical hit power.Rawulf Lord
Mook Samurai
Faerie Ninja
Felpurr Monk
Hobbit Bard
Elf Bishop
I found that I could import two Sai for my Ninja and two
Nunchaku for my Monk (he can use them in Wiz 8!) and 15
shuriken per player, making a deadly, stealthy duo.

LLevram, since you already have a Faerie monk, might I suggest instead of a Felpurr Monk (since he is your weakest link) change him to a Samurai. He will no longer be a weak link if you do this. Put lots of points into speed and watch his "lightning strike" wreak havoc upon your foes!My Felpurr Samurai sometimes lightning strikes and hits 5 or 6 times in one attack!

I tried this party for a couple reasons ... I had never played with a bishop (no off-color jokes necessary
) and a comment from one of the Wiz 8 team, about race/class bonuses.The comment was about monks and how you could play a fairie monk, but it would/could be tough to develop for strength. I opted for the other route and developed her as more of a healing (well, initially as a healing) spellcaster. She has turned out to be very useful, as opposed to her male Felpurr counterpart.
I picked Felpurr because they did have one of the better bonuses toward Monk and hadn't played a Felpurr yet. He has just started getting a few criticals, and since I have my bishop covering mage duties, there is no poit now (level 14-15) to change him. I will probably concentrate more on his combat skills from here out.
p.s. I am glad I had a Felpurr, because I just found another multi-race specific item (only for Felpurrs, Rawulfs & Trynnie) - there was another I found before that is Lizardman & Dracon only ... cool.

My Party came over from Wiz 7 with Vi in the Helazoid shuttle.
I made a few changes at the beginning so my party is,Human Monk
Faerie Ninja
Lizardman Lord
Felpurr Samurai -> Gadgeteer (I changed her as soon as I was able to.)
Elf Ranger (just gotta love that elven bow)
Faerie Bishop
Since we came with Vi Domina, we usually keep her with us,
for much of the game so far we had been alternating between Saxx and Myles (who I changed into a bard also)
Have experimented with the other RPC's we have ran into
was not to impressed with Urq either, Private Sparkle whined and cried alot when we were in the mines. Just picked up RFS-81 and are giving him a bit of a try out. But since we already have a monk, don't see keeping him that often. And besides don't know how he would react if we started working for the T'rang again.

My current party:
Dracon Samurai
Hobbit Ninja
Human Gadgeteer
Elf Bishop
Mook Ranger
Faerie MageI've used Vi with RFS-81 or Madras as my NPCs.
Vi gives me another front-line fighter. RFS-81 is nice for the crits (and Monks are just generally cool
), but the Mark 8 gun that Madras now has gets so many shots per round, crits, blinds and KO's that the monk isn't really necessary. I find it best to target my PC gadg and Madras on different MOBs to spread the blind/KO/Insta Kill around.
I use my PC gadg (with some magic items and Knock-Knock) as my thief.
My original party had a bard and thief in place of the gadg and mage. For some reason, I couldn't make that party work.
Regards,
NorinL

Hobbit Rogue
Felpurr Samurai
Elf Mage
Mook Ranger
Dwarf Fighter -> Lord
Rawulf Priest

Might as well list my party composition as well...Well at the End of Wiz7 I had this party:
Felpurr Ninja
Felpurr Samurai
Faerie Ninja
Hobbit Bard
Rawulf Valkyrie
Elf Monk
I imported this party (from ending where us and Vi took the Helazoid craft). Also in Wiz7 I had class changed my non-ninjas into ninjas for 10 levels and changed my Ninjas into Alchemists for 10 levels. That way everybody had some ninjutsu and critical strike skills. When I imported the party, everyone still had some stealth and critical skill, so it was worth it.
I actually am playing two games at the same time - and going through both of them rather slowly on purpose. (I want to be very high level when I end the game(s)).
First Game I changed my Faerie Ninja into a mage right away (level 2) and at level 8 changed my Bard into a Gadgeteer.
That party is doing pretty well.
Second Game I changed my Faerie Ninja into an Alchemist right away and left the rest as they were. I think this party is doing better then the first one.
As for RPC's - I tend to switch them around a lot depending on where I am, where I'm going and what I want to do. Although neither party has recruited Saxx.
p.s. Is there any place you can find the saxaphone for a bard like Saxx's without killing Saxx?

Here are mine:Myles & Vi (both at lvl 9)
Mook Ranger (9) - most kills, and great scouting skill
Dwarf Lord (9)
Felpurr Samarai (9)
Hobbit Ninja (9)
Faerie Psionic (9) - That Insanity spell has been nice so far..
Elf Bishop (9)
Haven't tried changing any professions yet, but have been thinking about it.. Any suggestions?
Also, who does everyone like for NPC? Myles, Vi, or the Monk? Are there more?
