I know there are some supposedly in Lower Marten's Bluff and in the Mt Gigas Caves but I can't find them...

some gadgets can be randomly found. the stuff that you can't drop - which is the item that you MUST have - are in the same place every time. those items will be in the same room or drop from the same monster in every game.
so - the items that you have to have are never hidden. just go through every room and explore every part of the map, and you will find them easily.

... someone suggested one of the Umpani caves gadgets might be random, but I don't think so. I believe all of the gadgets and instruments are static placements - they are always there.
The one exception to this would be when buying them from NPCs (i.e. like Anna doesn't always have electrodes).
