"Lord vs Bishop"

I have a party composed of a lizard fighter, a bard, mage, gadgeteer, priest, and a Lord. I am having my doubts about the Lord and am considering changing him to a Bishop. What are some of your opinions on who is more useful?

Personally I would consider ranger instead of lord. Vi will be at your service almost from the beginning and she will cover magic side of lord. And I found rangers (Mook in particular) to be very valuable members. Scouting will be helpful at the first half of the game as well.

Another thing that I would consider is changing your priest into bishop. IMHO, dedicated priest class is not necessary when you have bard and priest hybrid (read Vi). Bishop's versatility will really pay off at the second half of the game while bard/mage will do the same for the first part.

But - as always - just go with classes that you want to see in action - this game can be finished pretty much with any group.

I changed my lord to a fighter, after he got all the spells he'd need. He became the second most effect fighter in my party... second to my samurai.

In your case, the lord is more useful, beacuse you don't have a second front line fighter. You already have 4 people who can cast magic (mage and priest) or use items to cast magic (bard and gadgeteer). You only have the figher for melee combat. A ranger would be good because you could use more help on the ranged combat front too. A rogue is a good long range and melee fighter as well.

be careful switching to hybrid classes if you want your magic to still work effectively. There are some questions about how the game is calculating the character levels when casting magic. Just make sure to save before making the switch and see whether you like the change.

I agree with ghostwheel - ranger would be more useful than either of the two, as apart from being quite a killing machine (just make sure you hold on to three light crossbows and let your gadgeteer tinker with them - excellent weapon!) s/he can scout AND make money, if you pay attention to their alchemy. If you decide on a bishop, they obviously can learn alchemy spells too, but they take longer to level up. Then again, a ranger has to wait five levels before they learn alchemy spells, so its your call...
