The shaman also said something about an Idol? I found the secrect room but I don't think I got anything like an Idol.
Is it obscure or have I just not found it yet?

It is setting in a room, in plain view. You won't get to the room until you have explored a bit of Martens Bluff, on the inside. You have to find a lever, then the path to the idol opens up to you.
