Jonno, maybe I'm just a whingeing old bag, but even though I had finished the game already, I wish you did not post that particular spoiler...
Best, Kasia

It has been posted before (although I forget whether on this board or VN), and in all fairness, (a) this IS the spoiler board, (b) the post is clearly marked as a BIG Spoiler - about DS's identity, no less, (c) as a last defense, it includes a bunch of leading spaces, so if someone "accidentally" opens the post, they can still back out.

Looking at him in Wiz 7 the quote " Luke, I am your father. " definatly comes to mind

Maybe we need a double-secret spoiler board. 8^)

Seriously, is the concern here mostly for people that have played the series all the way through? I played W1 and W2 ages ago and none since. To me the enjoyment of the game has little to do with the DS.

I did not see its coming either. BTW I suggest you to take Vi with you to the ascension peak/cosmic circle and rfs-81 the android. She has some speech too.

Which is (as was said) a yawn, and everyday occurence, something boring ...

Any one who thinks it is "ho hum" does not understand what I am getting at.

These people probably like Wiz 8 for its 3D combat and little else, and also probably has not played previous versions of Wiz, particularly Wiz 7.

That describe you Avatar ?

Then don't read the spoiler. It said spoiler, with DS's true identity. Jeesh.

'Who is this Savant, this dark herald of change?'

Various W8 characters did let on that Phoonzang was a Cosmic Lord, though I hadn't seen that in W7.

Anybody have thoughts on the relation of the DS/Ph revelation to exposition from earlier, particularly from W7? All those statues, the recorded message on the spaceship, those final rants in the Tomb and back in New City?

So why did Phoonzang leave all the stuff behind for the Crusaders on Guardia? Was that before he was banished, or did he work for a while to help humans to Ascend before he decided he wanted to return himself?

As for the 'Luke...' thing, I'm certain I'd seen someone bring that up somewhere before W8 came out. A striking correspondence indeed. Only now we're all stuck in ESB for all eternity, hanging from that antenna. Sigh...

Bradley totally wanted Vi to be a bigger character in W8, but I don't know how it could have been done. At any rate I was kind of disappointed by the acting for Vi--overwrought. My Vi always laughed more. I love that first encounter with both of them in the Forbidden Zone.

Poor old King Bane just didn't know what he was getting into with that sweet young thing, I tell you whut.

When playing Bane, BELA lets on that the Dark Savant is a former Cosmic Lord.
After all, BELA asks the party if they want to chase a Cosmic Lord.
That in itself should have triggered someone's thoughts that the Dark Savant was a Cosmic Lord, and that the Dark Savant may be Phoonzang!
Though, I also did not see that coming that they are the same person.

Thanks

Bela's words could refer to Aletheides(sic?) who came to retrieve the Cosmic Forge (and Aletheides is kind of Cosmic Lord). I am still pretty sure of it, but am not sure that developers of BoCF already thought about Dark Savant.

Anyway, I am going to finish Wiz 8 this weekend, and if I do not find any proof that DS is Phoonzang (so far I think this is not true, because this just contradicts to several facts of CoDS), beware everyone!

"The Bane of Dark Phoonzang"

A'right, I have finished Wiz 8 or BoDP (see the subj), and I now have something to tell...

Yes, Phoonzang=Dark Savant, so relax everyone. But I did not see it coming, because... it was not coming!

Let us look at the entire story:
1) Phoonzang made CM, AD, and DD, and the Cosmic Lords banished him, like Olympic gods banished Prometeus. So far so good.
2) Suddenly Phoonzang looses his temper and bends totally on revenge. For me, this is rather suspicious, I think that Cosmic Lords (even banished ones) should be more mentally stable. But this is still tolerable.
3) What should the Cosmoc Lords do after that? They should know everything in the universe (in fact, it is they who define everything with their Cosmic Forge ), so they should know that if someone uses the Trinity and starts a new destiny, they will be gone. They also should know that Dark Phoonzang is sharpening his knife. But the idiots of the Cosmic Lords do nothing! Here, I like the plot less and less.
4) Some time passes, and the Cosmic Lords, who are as vigilant as Lorrac the Arnika absent-minded bank clerk, have their Cosmic Forge stolen. They send their henchrobot Aletheides to recover it, and it takes him(it) 120 years to find it barely beating a gang of thugs. Aletheides takes the pen, and commission them to recover "the most powerful artifact". Brilliant , but I already "do not believe".
5) For a moment, I shall skip the CoDS story...
6) ...Now even with Cosmic Forge recovered, the Cosmic Lords do not prevent Ascension, and as the result they are gone. This is... just stupid.

But it turns even more stupid if we recall CoDS. So Phoonzang was known there as a mortal man, who created AD, left the power of unlocking it to his descendants and died. Quite naturally. But if Phoonzang becomes Dark Savant, then why should he create the Guardians of the Key??? I cannot see any reason. He has difficulties locating AD (although we know that it was he who created Guardia!), and he is not able to unlock it himself (he even does not remember it when he tries to take AD ), making Vi do it.

Well, anyway, if a bunch of idiots rule the Universe, apparently, only another idiot can challenge them .

The storyline would be much better, I think, if Dark Savant were not identical with Phoonzang. Say, DS used to be an apprentice of Phoonzang, but Phoonzang mistrusted him (quite justly) and did not pass to him all his knolwedge. The he died, leaving Savant just able to Darken and set out to retieve AD and other stuff to become a Cosmic Lord. The Cosmic Lords knew little of him, so they did not take measures until it was too late. The rest is what we all know...

Phoonzang is the Dark Savant? Damn, i was expecting 'His Divine Shadow'

Any LEXX fans out there? HDS's gotta be a dead ringer for the Savant, event to the extent of having those Savant Guard type androids in the first movie.

Hate to say it but...

The Cosmic Lords are (with the use of the forge) omnipotent. Nowhere is it written that they are omnisceint. Given the fact that the forge COULD be stolen proves the point.

The the time he created the AD he also created the line of guardoans. Why Vi never visited sky city we wull never know.

Losing omnipotence can have devistating side effects. See on episode of Star Trek wher Q was stripped of his powers by the comtinuum. When you strp<[ed of inifinite memory capacity you can tend to forget things[P>Hope these answer some of your objections to game plot.

In my first game (I finished) playing Wiz 7, she met me at Phoonzang's ship, in the City of Sky.
