I got the game today but my CD's were flawed, they wouldn't run at all

I've looked at some of yours partys and I noticed that some of them got frontline characters on the first four slots. Since I have the manual and your good advice I was hoping to decide upon a party before I get the game again. Wich characters can hit what monsters from wich position? Is it like wiz gold where only the first three chars. could attack with short weapons, or does it work another way.

btw. is magic as powerful as in wiz gold?

please explain

thanks

The slot ranking isn't like Wizardry. All characters can be considered in slots 1-3 for easy explanation.

Magic is powerful to a degree. It's a good starting attack, but can damage your party big time if you use a mass damage spell in a confined area.

I found that everyone in my party could hit in melee, no matter what position they were in. However, I have a pixie mage who could not reach her target with the little wand she was using when she was in the 6th spot. When I put my elephant in the 6th spot with a witch's stick (a magic staff) he can reach targets...go figure. Magic is very powerful in this game, at least in the early part. Some of the more powerful spells like elemental damage can severely injure or even kill party members if cast at targets within melee range. Also, some monsters will not be affected by certain types of spells at all, or they are extremely resistant to them. My melee fighters are all at about skill level 4 in their chosen weapon skill, yet they still miss their target quite often. When they do hit, they hit for between 1 and 9 with their current weapons (one is a magic spear that hits 4-10 and the other is a sword that hits 4-8) The spellcasters' higher level spells (about lvl 5) hit for as high as 20. Also, they seem to regenerate mana quite quickly, and each spell realm, I.E., spirit, sun, stone, etc., has it's own mana supply; so a caster can exhaust his stone mana and then still cast spells from the sun realm. Hope this helps
