"Roguelike games"

I was just wondering if anyones played one of these extensively or not, because I was going to try one these holidatys and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the best to go for

Right now its between Nethack, Ancient Domains of Mystery (gads what a name) and Slash'Em
and leaning towards ADOM right now due to the rather uninfluential fact that ive already downloaded it

so yeah anyone?

d

on a similar note im also trying to make one from fairly first principles in java, should be amusing

ADOM is great!

But it seems that its creator will never be able to finish it ;) For me though it is perfect as it is...

P.S. Do not forget to show your java based masterpiece...

You simply can't go past Zangband, although it's pretty hard for the newbie...

Try AngbandTK or ZangbandTK.
The TK versions give better graphics and allow you to customise sound effects.
Good luck. Roguelike games are devilishly hard!
