"Icewind Dale"

Well I gave up on Diablo 2 halfway through At first it was ok but man it gets old fairly quickly. Now I am playing Icewind Dale and it seems too easy at times but it is a lot of fun. Great character creation options helped and the ability to change from turn base to real time is growing on me.
Ive only been playing for a week so its too early to tell but this is at least a good fill in while we wait for the real things to come.

PS anyone want Diablo 2 cheap?

I have been kinda interested in this game as well. It looks like it has (at least) some potential, since they say they addressed most of the bugs/complaints people had with Balder's Gate.

Finished IWD this week. Pretty satisfying game. 3 or 4 really tough fights that busted my chops for days. I liked it better than Baldur. Of interest I got through the entire game without any hint of a bug, though I did install the patches.

curiosity : do you still kill everything with missile weapons? i think possibly one of the problems with baldur's gate, is i went through the majority with it purely with bows/arrows and slings/stones. made the game way too easy. Interestingly enough, it was something they fixed with planescape, since i don't remember even seeing missile weapons.

Yes, you can still kill everything with missile weapons. However, the monsters cover the ground between you MUCH more quickly, usually causing you to switch to melee weapons sooner than in BG. That, and the fact that almost everything has more hit points than a Goblin now, in numbers that rival the gibberlings in BG. And that the extremely deadly nasties that are immune to normal weapons can't be downed by a magical bow/sling/crossbow using normal arrows/bullets/bolts. There are a few bugs, but you're not missing much--there is an especially nasty bug though that affects your THAC0. However, since the item generation is semi-random, you might never see the item that causes this bug (which can seriously backfire if the character affected by it gets confused!) It's better to play it unpatched the first time through--with the patch, a certain fight near the end can cause a lockup, and you have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN. Yeech. (If you can't tell, I'm milking the game for all the fun it's worth.)

Yes in the Majority of fights the missle weapons would do but I found it very hard to keep enough ammo on hand. I used a hell of a lot of magic compared with Baldurs and it was rare that I did not have to go find more healing potions after even minor battles.
